Post-immunisation fever
Your baby might develop a slight fever after an immunisation because the
vaccine contains a small amount of the bacteria or virus. This is
perfectly normal and shouldn't last longer than a couple of days.
Treating the symptoms
Treat the fever as you would normally. Make sure your little one is
getting lots of fluids. It helps to keep their room at a comfortable
temperature too. A medicine such as
CALPOL® Infant
Suspension can be used to relieve pain and fever or you could try
CALPROFEN®
Ibuprofen Suspension, which starts to work on fever in just 15 minutes
and lasts for up to 8 hours.
You may notice a small lump that looks sore and red where the needle
pierced the skin, this is quite common. This should disappear in a few
weeks without special treatment.
To help you remember key dates, the makers of CALPOL® have created an
immunisation table for quick and easy reference.
