Are there any complications associated with scarlet fever?
8th September 2015
If properly treated, most cases of scarlet fever will result in no further complications. However, there are a number of possible complications that can occur.
In the early stages of scarlet fever, there is a small risk of sinusitis, ear infection (otitis) and a throat abcess. There is also a small risk of pneumonia and meningitis. If your child has had scarlet fever and displays symptoms of headache, vomiting and diarrhoea in the weeks following the initial infection, it is important to see your family doctor immediately.
